After playing the Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival for the first time in 2011 as the drummer of Candy Dulfer’s band, it was a delight for me to be asked back again for last year’s edition. This time “as myself”, opening both festival nights from The Naked Stage, just me and my drum kit, no amps. Naked indeed. Apart from that, we also hosted the online talkshow Drummerstalk, which led me to do two days of workshops on the island with a group of local drummers. I also got to interview some of the great drummers and artists that played the festival. The vibe of the island, the variety of insanely talented musicians over so many different styles, plus the incredible crew that realizes this festival year in year out, make for a truly unforgettable experience.
So it is with the greatest pleasure I can hereby announce our return for this year’s edition. Having said that, we need to raise the bar, in the same spirit Festival Director Erik Eman does every year. Drummerstalk will return in a new format, we’re going to be doing some live sessions on various locations and we will be recording a Caribbean Sea Jazz Anthem together with local musicians and artists that play the festival. But what I look forward to most is The Naked Stage. Can’t say too much about it, but the code word is: Battle! Oops, I might have said too much already. Guess you’re just going to have to find out for yourself. I hope you will enjoy this year’s edition as much as I know I will.
See you there!
